lately

As I keep mentioning, life has been so busy lately (in the best of ways!) and I thought I would slow down and share some of what I was up to last week.

Packed for my Cali trip – lots of brights + neon

Re-read my Domino mag on the plane
(lots of ideas for future projects!)

Pre-flight mani!

We did some typical touristy sightseeing in LA – HOLLYWOOD sign!

Shopping in Beverly Hills

Early morning coffee in Santa Monica

Back home to my sweet puppy who was freshly
groomed! – and the BF, too, but he doesn’t enjoy
modeling quite like this one.

This week has been a whole other story (and quite a whirlwind!) that I will fill you in on next week!

After the amazing Brimfield, Eric and I drove to Block Island, RI where we are right now!  We are enjoying just relaxing and exploring the town before heading back to reality again!

Enjoy your Sunday!

heading to BRIMFIELD!

And I'm off...again!  Life has been pretty busy lately!  After just getting back from California on Sunday, I’m heading to Brimfield, Massachusetts bright and early this morning!
I’m going to Brimfield for the Brimfield Antique Show, and more importantly, the Brimfield Tweetup, a social media get together!

This is my first time going and I can’t wait to meet other bloggers and people in the interior design field!  Of course, Eric and I will be on the hunt for our own antiques (he will be in his glory – he loves antiques!) and I have a few items I hope to pick up for clients!  Antique and vintage shopping is something that I am trying to do more often and take more advantage of and this is the perfect start!

Here are a few things that I'm hoping to find!
wooden crates

reclaimed wood stool

chunky reclaimed wood coffee table

accessories + frames

I’m excited to get back and share pictures of my findings and the event in general!

More exciting news!!
Beginning next week, I will be running a column featuring your design dilemmas! I receive a lot of emails from my readers asking decorating and organizing questions that I'm sure a lot of you can relate to! I would love to start featuring a few that I get!
If you have any type of question regarding decorating, styling your space, furniture, finding your style, how to organize while still being stylish and everything in between, email me at pinkletandc@gmail.com!

light + airy apartment tour

I'm back! After a great trip to California and quality time with my friends, it's back to the daily grind for me!

Did you enjoy my guest bloggers? I loved each post and am so thankful that they all wanted to be part of Pinklet and C while I was gone!  Thanks again to those reading!

While catching up on the latest posts on Apartment Therapy, I came across Caitlin Flemming's apartment tour! Caitlin has an interior design blog, Sacramento Street, and I'm now a huge fan!  I love to see others with small spaces and how they style them - it really amazes me sometimes!  Caitlin's apartment is no exception.  I'm in awe of how well put together and airy the space feels.

I love the headboard, perfectly tufted.

The trunks look amazing under the crisp white desk - great contrast.

My favorite part of any apartment - the little details.

The color of the wall combined with the white accents and the beige rug
provides such a relaxing, airy feeling.  I would love to lounge on that sofa!

Gorgeous windows with a perfectly styled vignette.

Make sure you check out the whole apartment tour on Apartment Therapy!

guest post - Stefanie from The Style Safari

Hi there! Stefanie from TheStyleSafari here, and I am so excited that Lindsey asked me to guest blog for her on Pinklet & C. I love all the inspiring interiors on this site, and since my site is mostly personal style, I thought I would blend our two loves together by doing a 'Runway to Room' post.

I stumbled upon Preen's latest collection on Style.com a few weeks ago, and ever since I have been completely mesmerized by the combination of colors and patterns. The unassuming way that the black and white floral patterns mix with the preppy pastel plaids has me transfixed, and instantly I knew I wanted to assume the challenge of turning this look into a room! Below is my take on a comfortable living room- enjoy!

1. A comfy geometric throw is always the right call-Nixon Throw, Jonathan Adler $295
2. Silk Plaid pillow are stylish and unique- Pillow, Annsliee on Etsy, $55
3. A light blue couch adds a neutral touch of color- Hydra Sofa, the Brick, (enter zip code to get price)
4. Add brights to your lights!- Bungalow 5 Ceylon Lamp, Candelabra, $481
5. White Lacquer adds glamour to any living room- Pangea Coffee Table, Los Angeles Furniture, $428
6. Graphic Prints add movement to a room- Pomona Black & White Rug, the Rug Market, $965
7. A sunny candle makes any room inviting- Daffodil Guest Room Candle, Lafco, $55
8. Decorative Lacquer boxes never go out of style- Purple Tulipwood Inlay boxes, Pacific Connections, Various Prices

guest post - Katie from Olios Design

My next guest poster is interior designer, Katie from Olios Design!  Katie runs a full-service residential and small business interior design firm.  I am so excited to have her share some of her designer secrets with you today!

Picture this: you walk into a space and see a wall full of books, drawers with fabric samples, a drafting table, a few desks with computers, phone, and the like, and a conference table with 6 chairs. Yes, I am beginning to describe walking into a designer’s studio. While these things are all important, most of the time a designer will only use a handful of smaller items weekly, even daily (this doesn’t include the computer, of course). A designer will typically keep these things stored together so they are easily accessible…in their toolbox!

Today I want to give you a sneak peak of what is in my toolbox and why those things are so important to my work as an interior designer. I purchased my toolbox, well, my tackle box (literally), when I was a freshman in design school and over the years have accumulated a lot of art supplies and tools. Well, 2 years after graduation I still use my toolbox weekly! Without further introductions, check out the top 10 things I use on a weekly basis in my toolbox (not in order of importance):
  • PRISMACOLOR rendering markers: I have about 50 colors (and my collection is still growing)
  • white artist’s tape: I use this tape to adhere drawings to matte board and foam core when presenting options to clients
  • 3 sided ruler: I actually have 3 rulers in my toolbox, but I use this one the most
  • drafting pencils:
  • PRISMACOLOR Colored Pencils: You wouldn’t believe how they help transform a black and white sketch for my clients
  • 16’ tape measure: I carry a smaller one in my purse at all times and have a larger one in my studio…you can never have too many tape measures!
  • Exacto Knife
  • nail file: you never know when you need to ever-so-slightly ‘repair’ something!
  • Gorilla Glue: seriously, I never leave home without it!
  • index cards

Be sure to visit Katie's website and of course, her blog, where she has such great interior design posts and you can follow along with some of her work!

Thanks again to Katie for sharing while I'm away!

guest post - Morgan from xoxo, me

Hello Pinklet and C readers! I'm thrilled to be joining you all today, and I'd like to thank Lindsey SO much for having me! I love stopping by here and reading her daily posts, so I'm very honored to be guest posting.

My boyfriend and I just moved into a new apartment, and we have the perfect little nook to add in a bar cart. I've been wanting some sort of bar-ish feature for about a year, and now that this nook has presented itself, I'm convinced that it's meant to be. In all reality, I think this can be a fairly reasonably priced project. After all, the decor on the cart mostly consists of pretty glasses and liquor bottles, and luckily we have a good collection started. I'm loving these inspiration photos below.

And what goes perfectly with a new bar cart? You guessed it - a delicious cocktail. I created this ridiculously tasty recipe myself, so I apologize for the lack of a fancy cocktail name. But of course, feel free to name it after me ;)

Ingredients:
-1.5 oz Blueberry Stoli
-1 oz. St. Germain
-6 oz. Sprite Zero
-Blueberries

Combine all of the ingredients except for the blueberries and shake in a drink mixer. Pour into a glass over ice and garnish with blueberries and you'll end up with one of these guys:

Thanks again, Lindsey for having me! While I'm not guest posting, I'm busy over at my own blog xoxo, me, and I'd love for you to stop by and say hello :)

xoxo, morgan

guest post - Dana from Big City Farm Girl

Hi Everyone, I'm Dana - fashion lover, DIY enthusiast, blogger over at Big City Farm Girl, and good friend of Lindsey's! I'm super excited to be posting over here at Pinklet and C. I wanted to make my post both fun and inspirational and came up with the idea of translating one of my favorite designers into an awesome party. When a designer creates a collection it needs to be cohesive, inspirational, eye catching, and make everyone go "wow." Well don't you want the same reaction when throwing a dinner party, birthday celebration, or bridal shower? Incorporating a certain designer's aesthetic is a way to make your party both  fun and fashionable. One of my favorite designers out there right now is Kate Spade. I'm in love with her bold, gorgeous, bright pieces and jewel tone accessories and of course classic polka dot prints. So why not take this look and plan a party around in?

If you're looking for an easy DIY, colorful centerpiece check out these that I put together for a friend's bridal shower!

Now who doesn't want to throw a party based on their favorite designer?

Thanks Lindsey for having me over here at Pinklet and C. I would love for everyone to stop by my blog and say hello!

guest post - Erica from ELLE Design Studio

Greetings from Erica of ELLE Design Studio! I am so pleased to be hanging with Lindsey from Pinklet and C today. Lindsey and I met via Twitter, and between her fashion sense and natural interior decorating ability, I just love catching up with her blog.

I recently completed the design of my own living room, but one thing is still missing… a substantial piece of artwork to hang above my sectional. Lots of deep blues, beachy tans, + greyish taupes reign in this space. I think a striking black + white photograph would be perfect. I want the deep blues in the rug, fireplace tile, and accent wall to stand out. The subject matter of the image needs to be bold, but void of distracting color.

I have been obsessing over equine images lately…Whether they are photographs, prints, suggestive or minimalistic paintings. I just discovered the incredible work of New York based photographer, Roberto Dutesco, and I have been swooning over his compelling photographs for weeks. He truly captures the natural elegance of these animals – I adore the intimate close-ups depicting their interaction with one another. So gorgeous! Have a look at some of my faves…

Thank you, Lindsey, for having me stop by today!
