fall color : rust

This year, I'm loving the color rust in homes - especially this season.  It's one of those colors that feels like the epitome of Fall - it's warm but has a bold personality.  Use it as a backdrop for neutral colors - beige, black, wood tones to enhance the space.

pink + peach with a splash of southern charm

I have another gorgeous wedding inspiration board to share with you today!
This board was created for a Spring bride who wanted to incorporate soft colors and little bits from her home state of Georgia.  We settled on a color palette of pink and peach and added in a few southern touches with the mason jars and peaches!

I am in love with this color palette - it's perfect for a Spring wedding and when combined, these two soft colors can provide a great backdrop on your wedding day.

Next up, I'm working with this bride on creating the perfect ceremony decor!

dining room love

If you needed some eye candy to brighten up your Monday, here it is!  When I first saw this gorgeous dining room, I instantly fell in love!  It's a perfect, traditional dining room - the epitome of classic and elegant, with amazing use of color.
It's hard to even pick out a favorite element in the room - the rug is great, the chairs have the perfect look for the space, the color of the drapes against the wall color - I love it all!

What's your favorite part of this room?

living room e-design board

This e-design board was one of my favorite ones to work on!  Not only was my client wonderful to work with, that rug is one of my favorite pieces!  I love how it pops the rest of the room.

My client just renovated part of her house and wanted to make her living room a little bit more formal, without being stuffy.  We mixed a lot of neutral tones and added in a few patterns and that gorgeous rug to keep the room interesting.
The room has a fireplace with a thick block of wood as a mantel.  We are resting the mirror on the mantel.

Now the room is ready for entertaining or just to enjoy with a good book.

In respect of my client, I keep all my sources private.  If you would like to know where something is from, just send me an e-mail!

mad for plaid...decor

Ooooh plaid - I love a good plaid (and all it's variations - gingham, tartan, buffalo any check will do!).  After working for a fashion company that is well known for their plaid men's shirts and having a fiancĂ© who would live in plaid shirts if he could, it's great to see it transition into home decor so nicely.

While it's also been around in home decor, I'm really on the bandwagon for it now!  The fall and holiday seasons are a great time to add in a few pieces and see how you like it!  You might already have a plaid comforter or throw, but why not try something a little more daring - an accent chair, a wall, or if you really love it - a tiled plaid backslash!

slipper chair round-up

One of my favorite pieces of accent furniture is a slipper chair.  Classic, traditional, contemporary, modern - they can fit in any home depending on fabric and legs.

These are my picks for my favorites right now.

fun front doors

Your front door is your house's first impression.  It's great to see ones that are fun and lively, doors that are bold - colors that you wouldn't normally think to use.

What color is your front door?  Do you like the bright colors, or do you prefer traditional?

kitchen inspiration

I'm back!  I just hopped off the redeye from LAX and i'm exhausted!  I'm trying to tackle some e-mails and get caught up on a few things before I take a little nap!

I've been so obsessed with kitchens lately and I saw this one and knew I had to share!  It's has a few modern touches, but I love how they mix in with the traditional cabinets, worn-in hardwood floors and exposed beam.

pink + grey wedding inspiration

Styling weddings is always such a fun project!  I'm been lucky to work with great brides and it's a good way for me to get all of my ideas out there, without having to use them all on my wedding day!

My latest bride is getting married next spring and is just now starting to plan out the details, she wasn't even sure about her color scheme.  The first thing we worked on together was creating a color palette, I presented her with 5 different ideas and she ultimately chose pink and grey - a lovely combo!

My next step with bridal clients is to start to go towards an overall theme, once we have a direction, I put together and inspiration board, like below, and send it off.  This is just an inspiration board, not a full styling board.  The purpose of this is for the client to see the overall theme and feel that the wedding will have, but not being constrained to budgets or specifics just yet.

I sent this to the bride and she absolutely loved it!  From here, I will start to pick out the specific elements and details.  She this bride is not local and will be executing the vision herself, I then created a full styling board, complete with an action plan and shopping list.

kitchen envy

I've had kitchens on my mind lately and this one is my idea of perfection.  Open shelving, white subway tile, dark hardwood floors, striped runner!

painted dressers

More and more, I'm seeing furniture being painted - it's a great way to give an old piece a new life and not break the bank.  While it's not a new idea, I am seeing it show up in houses all the time!  Of all the pieces that are painted, some of my favorite are always dressers.  I think it's because they are big pieces of furniture and there is a lot of texture - drawers, hardware.

entryway e-design board

My client recently re-decorated and updated most of her house and felt that her entryway was still lacking.  I find a lot of people have trouble with entryways because the areas are oddly shaped, not clearly defined, and sometimes, just difficult to work with!
When discussing the plan for the room, my client shared that she likes mostly traditional and classic elements and needed a few different areas for storage (shoes, keys, mail, etc.)

Below is the final e-design board we went with.  I'm most excited about that gorgeous rug!  We needed one wow factor in the room, and my client felt the most comfortable with that element being in the rug, leaving the rest of the products to be more neutral and classic.

Once this e-design board was approved, I sent over my client the shopping list, budget, floor and action plan to put in place!  I can't wait to see her finished room!

In respect of my client, I keep all my sources private.  If you would like to know where something is from, just send me an e-mail!

bathroom re-design - step 1

A lot of clients and readers always ask me where to start when decorating or re-designing a room.  I always say to start with inspirations - general inspirations!  I tell everyone to just pull things on instinct, don't overanalyze and see if it would work in the room, or if it's your "style", just pull what speaks to you!

Recently, I met with a new client and I'm excited to start working on her bathroom re-design.  The layout and flow of the room work well, so we won't need to do a major overhaul, but we will be buying a new sink, painting, and  re-tiling the shower and floor.  For finishing touches, we will be buying all new accent pieces, a few baskets for storage and new towels to complete the look.

As always, whenever I begin a new project, I usually start by pulling lots of different inspirational images.  I try not to focus on one style or type and keep my eyes open for unique ideas that I wouldn't have originally places in the room.  I do this same exercise when I first meet with my clients.  I have them pull their favorite images of rooms they like, things that inspire them, etc.  We can almost always find a reoccurring theme or element in the rooms that can help point us in the right direction.

Here's what I've pulled so far - you will see they are all different styles of design in different colors and different finishes.

Now I will analyze all of these a little further and pull different elects from the rooms and try to combine them into a beginning inspiration board!
