We organized all of the clothes by type. On this side you can see the dresses. Below the dresses I used a very afforable cube ogranizer (I bought this one from The Home Depot - here). We also bought a few of the inserts that go with it (also at The Home Depot - here). The open shelves hold jeans and pants that could be be folded. The storage inserts below hold some flip-flops, hats, and other accessories.
To the far right are sweaters in hanging shelves. I like the canvas ones the best. I think they hold up nicely and also still look nice. I used the canvas ones from The Container Store (here).
We used old clothes and shoe boxes to store accessories like gloves and extra sunglasses that aren't used all the time. The storage box to the right holds stationary, photos, old magazines, etc. Since she shares the apartment with other girls she keeps these things in her room tucked away.
More storage on the shelf above. Towels and washcloths are to the left. The other two storage baskets hold extra linens and laundry detergent. (When you live in the NYC area, you have to get creative with storage!) The rest of what we hung is shown. Its sorted by color. I LOVE sorting by color. When given the chance, I will do it. I also used black flocked hangers (I normally buy the Huggable Hangers from The Container Store - found here), but just about anywhere has them now. I always use these and find they are the best. I love how they are all the same color, size and shape. It really helps to streamline some of the messiness that comes with a closet.
We used a shoe rack to store all of her shoes in a way so they were easily accessible, easy to find, and took up that extra vertical space. You can find a similar one from The Container Store (here). I stacked a few on top of each other.
Here is another shot of the left side of the closet. Nice and neat!
This makes me want to reorganize my closet now! I'm sure another post will follow soon!
