my apartment tour

A have a lot of you asking for more pictures of my apartment and I know I have shown a few on here and a few other blogs, but I thought I would give you the full experience! The pictures aren't as good as I would like, but these things are always a work in progress!

Living in and around Manhattan the last 4 years, I have learned to embrace tiny apartment living!  When my boyfriend and I moved into our current apartment, I immediately went to work on decorating!  I started buying things the minute we signed the lease and haven't stopped - a year later!  It was important for me to make it feel more like a home, rather than a typical apartment with white walls.

Here's a tour of my apartment and some of my decorating tips!

Instead of painting the entire apartment just to paint it back when we move out, we painted one accent wall. Giving it a pop of color really brought the space to life without bearing too much.  I'm more of a neutral girl, but I had to do some compromising on this one and I'm happy with the results!  I kept the accents and furniture neutral to help balance out the room.

We have pocket doors that open up into bedroom.  I like to keep them open so the apartment feels bigger.  To keep the space flowing I tried to keep the colors consistent throughout.  This always helps when I want to redecorate a bit.  Great budget tip - a lot of the pieces and accessories can work all over the apartment.

[Please excuse the TV. The bf couldn't turn off sports center while I took the picture!]
The typical apartment "beige" walls work as a neutral background for the dark furniture on the tv wall and the accents on the wall around the pocket doors.

The owners of the apartment had already painted the bedroom so we worked with the color and kept the bedding simple.

One of my favorite parts of our apartment is this bookcase area!  The exposed brick really enhances the whole space and looks great with the all of the black pieces.

When visiting other apartments I always love to look at the accents.  I think they tell the most about the person that lives there - small pieces can have a big impact!  Here are my favorite around my apartment.

Fresh flowers are the best accessory!

What do you guys think?  I'm hoping to get better shots as time goes on, but I think these are a good start!

    1. The coffee table is from home decorators actually. We looked a lot of original reclaimed wood options but we just couldn't foot the bill at the time! This is a great cost-friendly option!

  4. Love the exposed brick walls throughout your apartment! A couple of my fave accent pieces are that bookcase (gorgeous...from where?) and the use of the mirror on the floor as a reflection off the round table near the entry (great idea).

    1. the bookcase is actually from ikea - if you can believe it! I got it a few years ago whe I graduated college and it has been through 3 moves and 3 apartments with me and it's held up beautifully! I really love it and it's so versatile. I've used it both horizontal and vertical.

  6. I absolutely adore it! We live in a tiny house too so I can sympathise with lack of space but you have been really clever with the space that you have. I really love the different finishes on the walls (especially the exposed brick) and the layout is perfect!

  11. The accents of the apartment look posh and glamorous, especially the ones on the walls. True, accents are the ones that attract most visitors. By the way, I'm also a neutral person - most of the walls in my apartment are painted neutral. It adds a sense of neatness to the place.
